Skin is not only the foundation, the canvas, of beauty. Skin also helps protect the body from harmful toxins and helps moderate body temperature. The importance of keeping your skin strong and healthy is crucial not only for ageless beauty, but for good health in general.
Many people dismiss the importance of having a good skin care routine. (A healthy routine equals a healthy you!) Even if your skin is as perfect as it can possibly get, adding a couple of skin care products into your everyday routine will not hurt.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to invest in 100$ creams and facials to achieve blissful skin. Skin is something so unique to the person. Whether your skin is dry, oily, combination, sensitive,”normal”, acne-prone etc., the ‘perfect products’ for your skin may not be ‘perfect’ for someone else. I hate to break it to you, but finding the perfect skin care routine is all about trial and error.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the a basic skin care routine:
A Simple Cleanser: You might not be able to see it, but everyday dirt and junk gets trapped in your pores. There are hundreds of products out there that you can try out. Dry skin? Try leaning more towards natural and soft products. Oily skin? There are many oil free cleansers out there that will do the job.
A Balanced Toner: Many people will forget this step. Not life threatening if you don’t, but it does (or can) improve the condition of your skin noticeably. The skin’s pH level should be around 5.5. Your skin needs to have enough, but not too much, oil to protect your body. Toning helps balance this pH level, leaving your skin strong against anything that threatens your health.
A Steady Moisturizer: This is pretty obvious. A steady moisturizer will eventually help moderate the amount of oil your skin secretes. Even if you have oily or perfect skin, don’t skip this step! If you “suffer” from oily skin, opt for a moisturizer with oil control.
Just another thought: A good routine is one that is right for you. Try having 2 routines. Sometimes what you need at night differs from what you need in the morning. Same goes for the different seasons.
Bottom line: A good skin care routine cannot hurt. Invest a little extra time and money to keep your skin looking healthy and strong!
