Coloured and dyed hair has taken a bold turn, with blocking and intense shades of the colour palette. Celebrities like Selena Gomez, Rhianna, Drew Barymore, Katy Perry, Niki Minaj, and Lady Gaga are all over this trend using electric tones to brighten their hair and blow up their fashionable images. The newest shades are hot pinks, purples, greens and blues. It is a beautiful form of self-expression that exudes a modern aesthetic.
This trend of colour is new for 2012, with hair dye becoming widely available to all consumers. Your hairstylist is always the best way to try this look but, if you’re comfortable using dye, you can pick up a bottle from your nearest beauty store/salon. I recently checked out a few beauty discount stores and they have fascinating colours in semi-permanent and permanent dyes for under $10! It is applied like a box colour and if you choose a semi-permanent dye, it washes out in 8-10 shampoo washes. It is recommended that you bleach your hair beforehand or highlight it with blonde if you aren’t naturally light-haired. You can pick up the bleaching product from the store as well. It’s an easy process but make sure you do your research before attempting anything drastic. A strand test is always recommended.
This colour frenzy can be incorporated with any look. I like the rocker chic look or the glam girl look to bring the coloured hair even more personality. Paired with a chiffon blouse, black dress skinny pants, boots and a peacoat….yes, this look is a definite statement. I would accessorize with a pair of glittery stud earrings and a statement necklace. Just gorgeous and so young and energetic! I have watched women walk by me, downtown Toronto, and I am just amazed at the different ways they individually play with colour!
