Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2013: Emerald!

Each year the Pantone Color Institute carefully observes and then selects a color that has been continuously replicated through various modes worldwide. Whether it’s splashes of the hue in fashion or home decor, the decision is a thorough process. Tangerine orange, the color of 2012, has just about reached the end of its reign of the color wheel. Emerald green is taking over as the color of 2013!

Emerald is a rich shade of green that we tend to see on a day to day basis. It’s a deep earthy tone that we associate with mother-nature.

Where else do we see this shade on an occasional basis? The red carpet, of course! Numerous stars are known for wearing this beautiful color to high class events. Kate Middleton was just seen wearing an emerald green Alexander McQueen gown at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Although we have yet to see this color dominate the fashion world, this particular shade has made an appearance a few times before. Remember Angelina Jolie’s emerald  drop earrings at the 2009 Academy Awards? The stunning pop of color was the perfect addition to her strapless black gown.

With 2013 a few days away, we’ll need to adjust to the dramatic color transition from orange to green. However looking at all these various combinations we doubt it will be a difficult one!

If you’re not too keen on the color, start with simple and small steps to include the soon to be everywhere shade of green into your everyday wardrobe. Bright jackets and colored denim are sure to be huge hits once spring comes around.

Accessories are a simple way to showcase the color in a less drastic way. Add some green nail color or a cute emerald green bag to your wardrobe.

Emerald green provides sophistication when worn right. As seen above it works well with solid colors like black, white and gold. This beautiful shade is rarely seen on a day to day basis but is one that will definitely get you noticed!
