Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 Ready to Wear Runway Show

British label Alexander McQueen’s creative director Sarah Burton wanted to celebrate “a beautiful future, positivity, optimism” in the Fall 2012 Ready to Wear collection.

Three-dimensional dresses in unique “exploding” silhouettes floated down the runway like sea anemone. Visor adorned models, all sporting icy platinum slicked back hair, strutted down the wooden floors wearing matching heel-less shoes with fur and ruffled detailing. Though McQueen’s past runway shows have been known for presenting savage beauty in dark, Gothic Tim Burtonesque themes, the Fall 2012 RTW show found the light in darkness.

Fabrics evolved from graphic Jacquard, to cherry blossoms, to laser cut pony-skin doilies and finally to thick, textured feather and furs creating volume and movement. Hammered metal harnesses and peek-a-boo metal detailing added a much-needed hard edge to the otherwise soft and fantastical collection.

Colors evolved from lightness to darkness ending in a spectrum of eye-catching jeweled tones. Needless to say Ms. Burton pushed her creative boundaries and reinvented the McQueen label to fit her own artistic growth in the 2012 Fall Ready to Wear show.
