MTV has been struggling to find original programming that is not reality television for quite some time. Shows like Skins, I Just Want My Pants Back, and The Hard Times of RJ Berger failed to find an audience. With Awkward, they finally got it right. Jenna Hamilton becomes famous at her high school after an accident involving a cruel letter and some poorly placed pills, is misinterpreted as a failed suicide attempt. While secretly hooking up with the hottest guy in school, Matty McKibben, Jenna finds her voice through an online blog. When she strikes up a friendship with Matty’s best friend Jake, Jenna is left to make a choice between the sweet Jake and the bad boy Matty. In the second season Jenna and Jake tackle their relationship head on, while Matty fights to win Jenna back. The third season of Awkward airs on MTV in 2013.
