Shia LaBeouf is far from his days of Disney Channel fame, way back when he starred as Louis Stevens on Even Stevens. He’s even further away from his days as international action hero. These days he’s taking a much more method approach to acting, admitting to Chelsea Handler last year to sending Lars Von Trier videos of he and his girlfriend having sex, in order to land a part in the upcoming Nymphomaniac.
His method style strikes again, as Shia has admitted to MTV (check out the video below for the full interview) that he took part in a little acid trip in order to get into character for his next film The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. In the film, Shia plays a young man who travels to Romania after the death of his mother and falls for a dangerous young woman (played by Evan Rachel Wood). Along the way his character does L.S.D. and Shia was determined to make that scene realistic.
Of his decision Shia explained, “I’d never done acid before,” and after some negative feedback during rehearsals he chose to experience the drug for himself. He continued that he took the drugs, “not ‘cause I wanted to be on drugs – I’m not trying to mess with the set or anything like that. It’s really just fear that propels people.”
Obviously Shia is not afraid to take a few risks for the betterment of his film. The film will not be out in theaters until September 13th, but has already debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on January 22nd. We’ll have to wait to check it out for ourselves to judge the accuracy of Shia’s performance. But if his past performances are any indication, we’re sure he’ll knock it out of the park.
