The creator of Family Guy will be hosting the 85th Academy Awards in 2013. Seth MacFarlane was tipped for the job in at last month’s Emmys, where he impressed and showed off his skills on the podium.
Seth is known for his wide range of comedic voices and raunchy sense of humour, so it’s a bit of a shock that the man behind the Family Guy series, the summer hit movie Ted, and host of Charlie Sheen’s roast on Comedy Central was picked.
“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” said Seth whose appearance on the February 24 telecast will be his first. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”
“We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” said Oscars telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
“It’s a very specific ceremony with a very specific tone,” added Seth. “The challenge will be to keep it funny, keep it lively and stay true to what it is I do. But at the same time adapt to the tone of this event. It’s a challenge but I’m looking forward to it.”
This year’s Oscars take place on February 24 in Los Angeles at the Hollywood and Highland centre, formerly known as the Kodak theatre.
