Ryan Murphy is returning to the musical scene.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he and Glee co-star Gwyneth Paltrow are currently prepping a TV version of One Hit Wonders, which they had formerly set up as a film project at Sony. One Hit Wonders is a musical dramedy series about a group of women who each had hit songs in the 90s and decide to form a supergroup. Gwyneth will be starring in the show and be an executive producer.
Gwyneth will play a 40-year-old woman, who 15 years after recording a hit song is broke, exhausted and the victim of cat-fishing by her roommate. Her fate changes when she gets a call from a record label looking to form a super group: her and two other singers who each had a hit song in the 1990s.
Back in 2012 when the original idea was pitched, Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz were also creators of the idea. Though it is currently unknown if they will be part of the dramedy series.
Ryan also plans to write One Hit Wonders as an anthology series, similar to American Horror Story with a different setting and tale each season and include original music.
We can’t wait!
