Reese Witherspoon and her agent husband, Jim Toth, were arrested early Friday morning for drunken and disorderly conduct. While shooting a movie in Atlanta, Toth was pulled over after driving erratically in the wrong lane. While he was being questioned by police, Witherspoon reportedly was hanging out of her window harassing the officer.
According to the police report, Toth was breathalized and found to be intoxicated at the level of .139 (the legal limit is .08). Once Toth was out of the car, Reese became increasingly irritated and began yelling at the officer that she did not believe he was a real officer. She then attempted to use her celebrity, but the officer was unimpressed and handcuffed the actress.
The new parents were then jailed briefly and released around 3:30 am Friday morning. Sunday night, Reese and Jim were both in attendance for the premiere of her movie Mud. Reese was photographed, looking upbeat, for only a few minutes before being escorted inside.
Today Reese has released a statement through her rep apologizing for her behavior.
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
We’re glad to see she’s taking responsibility for her actions, after all she does have three children to look after. This sounds like a night of poor judgment to us, and we hope Reese has learned a valuable lesson about assigning a DD!
