Police are investigating a video of Ariana Grande licking donuts on display at a shop in Lake Elsinore, California.
Cops have teamed up with public health officials to investigate the incident, the Associated Press reports. The 22-year-old singer is not being investigated, but rather Wolfee Donuts, the donut shop where the incident occurred.
According to E! Online, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. After Ariana and her backup dancer Ricky Alvarez left, the Wolfee Donuts shop owner took the video to detectives and filed a report, saying the donuts had been deliberately tampered with.
Department spokeswoman Dottie Merki said health inspectors will be looking into whether the donut shop has a history of leaving food out on display and if they had existing policies to prevent access to it. “California health laws require restaurants to protect all food from contact with the public,” Merki added.
The video also made headlines because Ariana also shouted, “I hate Americans. I hate America.”
She has since issued an apology saying, “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country,” she said in a statement Wednesday. “What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.“
