Melissa Benoist may not be coming back to Glee, but she will be returning to your TV screen.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Prods. have cast Melissa Benoist as their Kara Zor-El for the upcoming CBS series Supergirl. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
To play Supergirl there was an extensive casting process. The Glee Alumni beat out Claire Holt and Elizabeth Lail for the part.
According to Us Weekly, the 26-year-has made appearances on Homeland and The Good Wife, plus a supporting role in the Oscar-nominated film Whiplash alongside Miles Teller.
Following the news, the breakout star tweeted: “But seriously, sans emoji… I AM SO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #Supergirl”
