Leonardo DiCaprio revealed he turned down the role of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel movies.
Canadian actor Hayden Christensen won the role after.
“I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that, yes,” Leo confirmed. “Again, just didn’t feel ready to take that dive. At that point.” He told Shortlist.
“A lot of people may look at what I’ve done career-wise and say that there was a period in which I tried to possibly become a movie star, per se, (and) tried to go for much bigger pictures,” Leo also said. “The truth of the matter is, there was a period of time, very early on, when I started watching films and having heroes in the industry, actor-wise. But I feel I’ve been consistent about my dreams and what I wanted to be as an actor. I felt like I had this great thing in Star Wars that provided all these opportunities and gave me a career, but it all kind of felt a little too handed to me. I didn’t want to go through life feeling like I was just riding a wave.“
According to The Daily Mail, the Revenant star also opened up in the interview about the possibility of playing a superhero in the future, revealing he once had a meeting with Joel Schumacher to play Robin in Batman Forever, another role he bowed out of.
“They’re getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies,” said Leo. “I haven’t yet. But no, I don’t rule out anything.”
Maybe we’ll see Leo in a superhero cape one day.
