On the Teen Mom 2 premiere Tuesday night, Leah Messer revealed they finally got a diagnosis for her 4-year-old Aliannah. She is suffering from a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
Throughout the show viewers have seen Ali have developmental struggles, mainly physical. The condition is degenerative, and will only get worse as she gets older, eventually confining her to a wheelchair.
“Eventually, Ali could be in the chair all the time,” Leah explained in the new issue of Us Weekly. “But I’ve never seen her so happy. She chases [twin] Aleeah and doesn’t fall down anymore.”
Though the diagnosis was hard to accept, Leah and her husband Jeremy Calvert are trying to stay positive about her future.
“We were scared because we didn’t know what her future was going to look like, but we always pushed for answers. We never gave up, and we never will. We’ll do everything we can to make sure Ali has the life that she needs,” Leah told In Touch.
Thankfully Ali can walk now, but she will be in a wheelchair when she gets older.
So devastating. I can’t imagine dealing with something like this, as a parent. We take a great deal of things for granted. Hope Ali is okay!
