Taylor Swift has never confirmed whether her song “Dear John” is about John Mayer, but it is pretty obvious it is, his name is in the title!
Her album, Speak Now, is filled with songs about her recent relationship ups and downs, and she doesn’t hold back.
Tay-Tay told People Magazine:
“This is album number three, so I figure that these people have had fair warning,”
I agree with her, if you don’t want a song about you, then don’t date her! That’s how Taylor seems to deal with heartbreak, so don’t break her heart!
John doesn’t agree though, he told Rolling STone:
“It made me feel terrible, because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
It is a known fact that Taylor sings about her exes, and in “Dear John,” she sings,
“Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?”
The song was released short after the breakup on her Speak Now album in 2010.
Of Swift’s song, he tells Rolling Stone:
“I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”
“As a songwriter … I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bull––––.”
Yikes! Drama, drama, drama…
