Glee star Cory Monteith has checked into rehab for substance addiction.
The Canadian actor who plays Finn Hudson in the hit US show, has been written out of the final two episodes of season four while he recovers.
According to Cory’s rep, he has, “Voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction. He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”
Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, tweeted yesterday, “I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%.”
Co-star Kevin McHale tweeted, “Love u @CoryMonteith, so proud of you :)”.
Cory dropped out of high school when he was 16 and at the time, realized he had a serious problem. He felt his life was “out of control,” and went in for treatment when he was 19. He’s been open about his substance abuse and in 2011, he told Parade he was “lucky to be alive.”
Cory’s co-star and real life girlfriend Lea Michelle stands by her man’s side as she is proud and supportive of his decision to enter rehab.
A rep for Glee tells E! News, “Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment. Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”
