Former Wizards of Waverly Place star Jake T. Austin has allegedly been involved in a hit-and-run early Tuesday morning in Sherman Oaks, California.
TMZ also reported that Jake ‘escaped’ a DUI charge from October just blocks away from the crash on Tuesday. He was initially charged with a DUI, but his lawyer Jay Jaffe is said to have got the charges dismissed in exchange for a speeding charge.
The 18-year-old star and his friend were driving around when their car smashed into not one, but three parked cars on the side of the street. The cars suffered major damage and witnesses told TMZ that Jake tossed a vodka bottle out the window before fleeing the scene. Police suspect drinking was involved. It is also not known whether Jake was driving the car at the time.
He is indeed in trouble for leaving the scene, but his lawyers called police shortly after, claiming Jake had to leave because he and his friend needed medical attention. His lawyer also said no chargesshould be pressed, as Jake is willing to compensate all those involved for the damage.
Jake currently stars as Jesus Foster on the family drama series The Fosters, about a same-sex couple and their children.
The show was recently picked up for a full season and will return to ABC in January, 2014.
