The newest addition to the VMA lineup is Demi Lovato. After a tumultuous 2011, Demi has really been working hard to have a fabulous 2012. As the new judge for The X Factor alongside Britney Spears, and veterans Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, Ms. Lovato has a secure place in Hollywood. Now with this performance during the VMA’s preshow she should be able to possibly garner new fans from a wider audience than her Disney Channel days.
Demi updated her Twitter saying:
“So freakin excited to perform at the @MTV VMA Pre-Show! I can’t believe it!!!”
Coincidentally, also performing at the VMA’s is One Direction. The group’s only Irish member Niall Horan has been linked to Demi—though recently she has confirmed a friendship she has vehemently denied anything romantic. Both have claimed their busy schedules would make a relationship too difficult. Hopefully the two will be able to sneak away during commercial breaks for some quality time together. The band can be seen in a promo for their performance here.
One Direction will also be hosting a special on MTV Thursday August 30, “One Direction: My First Time,” which will feature many of the other performers, such as Taylor Swift, Pink, and more, giving the inside stories on their own first times at the Video Music Awards. From an interview with MTV, Liam Payne has said of the anticipation for their first time at the show:
“It’s quite nerve-racking, because obviously there’s been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. Now we want to make a moment ourselves.”
The award show airs on MTV, September 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Also performing: Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Green Day, and Pink.
