Looks like Brad Pitt wants everyone to enjoy the same rights as he and bride to be Angelina Jolie. With election season coming to a close, issues like gay rights and women’s rights, as well as the economy are weighing heavy on everyone’s minds. Marriage equality has become one of the largest issues for this particular political ballot, and Brad clearly wants this country to progress. Donating $100,000 to the Human Rights Campaign which, according to Perez Hilton, supports efforts in campaigning for marriage equality in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington State.
After submitting his donation Brad released an eloquent statement:
“It’s unbelievable to me that people’s lives and relationships are literally being voted on in a matter of days. If you’re like me, you don’t want to have to ask yourself on the day after the election, what else could I have done?”
This is not the first time the actor has stood up for equality in marriage. He and Jolie had in the past claimed that they would refrain from marriage until everyone had the same right as they did. Of course the reneged on that promise in early 2012 when the two became engaged. After being questioned about their original promise there was no direct comment, though they did say that their six children were beginning to wonder why mommy and daddy were not married.
Regardless, this donation is quite generous and a great step forward for equality in our nation!
