Are you in a long distance relationship that you don’t want to give up? Then the article is a must read for you.
Not everyone knows, but many can imagine the kind of strain being in a long distance relationship can have on a couple. There could be many reasons why couples may have to deal with this separation at some point in their relationship. Some may handle the separation in a better way then others, but nonetheless it is hard time for all couples.
The distance between a couple is simply a test in their relationship. Couples who encounter this kind of relationship come into contact with many difficulties that they must overcome to survive the test, otherwise their union will be put into jeopardy.
I have included some tips on how to make your relationship work and end the test with an A+.
Whether a separation in a relationship is for two months or for one year, it is equally as stressful. Many long distance couples find it hard to keep up with each others’ lives.
Distance may lead to the formation of insecurities for both parties. You may start to question one’s loyalty to the other and whether or not the two of you have what it takes to make it. You may also contemplate breaking up with the option of reconciling the relationship when you reunite again, but this is not a good idea. It will be harder to get back together after time apart then it is to hold on to the relationship. Take a break from those self-defeating thoughts and consider this: it’s perfectly natural and normal to feel doubt/fear in the lulls of a long distance relationship.
One of the best ways to keep your relationship in tact is to develop a routine. Routines will not only help you to keep in contact, but it will relieve many insecurities and worries you may have. Having a routine of an 8am good morning phone call, 12pm lunch break email, and 11pm goodnight Skype call will release much anxiety one may have in a long distance relationship.
When communicating through SMS or email it is easy to misinterpret what the other has said and it may lead to fights. Try to avoid lengthy conversations through instant messaging. Make sure you don’t go over the top, it may become intrusive and your partner may start to feel claustrophobic.
It is of upmost importance that when you start feeling any sort of frustration by the miles that separate you and your partner, to make an effort to not put your life on hold.
Ensure that you still do the things that you love to do and pursue all new ventures you have been longing to do. Do not isolate yourself from the outside world. It may be tempting when you are unsure of how to handle being away from your partner. It is hard to internalize the notion of being with someone, but feeling alone at the same time. You shouldn’t internalize your insecurities and allow them to cut you off from your goals and dreams in the outside world. It is dangerous to the health of the relationship as your insecurities will rise about the other person’s feelings for you.
That’s all I have for now but remember, long distance may be tough, but it’s not the end of the world. If your feelings are strong enough, they can triumph anything.
The best accessory a girl can own is confidence.
